I've been really busy since my family came home for the holidays, and up till now with the first semester of my Masters Program concluding in the next two months. Job applications are doing okay. The schools I've submitted my resume to have told me to call back in March, when graduations are over and they're open for hiring teachers for the new school year. In the meantime, I've gotten myself a part-time job as a tutor for my sister's boss's boss.
It pays incredibly well for what I actually do, so I'm hoping I can really save before summer rolls around.

I'm really looking forward to this year. 2014 is probably my most important year yet. I plan to start a lot of things, accomplish a lot of things, be loads happier with what I'm doing in general.
Hobby-wise, I'd love to get to building that tall pile of LBXs (and a lone Gundam my sister got me for Christmas!). It'll double as practice for me since I plan to join this year's GBWC. I want to perfect nub removal, sanding, and seaming--so I can build the cleanest units anyone's ever seen. This March, I'm going to purchase a body for Honey, and finally get to complete him, fulfilling what seemed such a lofty goal when I decided he'd be our 10th Anniversary gift back in 2012 (not to mention making my debut in the BJD hobby after two years of lurking and dicking around).
Yes, it's the 10th Anniversary of The JohhnyMcKilt Productions, my pseud when I was in FanFiction.Net. And while most people would rather forget their early years in FF.Net, they are immensely important to me. A lot of things in my life are centered around fic and fandom. I've experienced a whole lot through writing--loved, gotten hurt, and grew as a person. It's going to be amazing for me to sort of look back and laugh at myself and all the dumb things I wrote for the past ten years, and see how far I've gone.
So yeah, January's over. I'm on a road I feel good taking.

One thing to note about GBWC is to know which category best suits your entry. I learned that the hard way. They weren't actually very clear with the rules. I feel I should have won anywhere from 3rd to 8th place because c'mon my RX-178 Gundam Mk II was just so awesome!!! (Yes, Im probably just a sore loser.. But at least I won an MG kit in the raffle which was way better than their consolation prizes, so everything worked out ok.) And that Gundam Age.. meh.. that probably won't give you much of a challenge. But hey if its free, then that's ok I guess.

the 2013 rules seemed pretty straightforward? is there anything i should know. alam ko basta galing Toys R Us ang laruan mo although is there something like, dapat binili mo within so and so months? :P

Hmm, sorry not the rules, maybe I should say the category descriptions weren't clear. October yta yung last year. I think may competition din na sponsored ang Toy Kingdom which was probably held May last year pero hindi official entries sa gbwc ang winners.The rules by the way are dapat galing sa Toys R Us with the receipt and the box. And they're going to mark the box presumably so you can't use that kit again in another competition.
ReplyDeleteYung New/Open category winners usually heavily modified ang entries.And there was a special category with essentially the same description as the new/open category. So how would I know which one to join?
Sidenote: The official Philippine representative to the gbwc in japan obviously had great modelling skills. But the entry was meh.. it was like a giant robotic gundamy insect thingie. The model looked, I dont know.. too busy? Just google it and see what I mean.
Tapos there was this category na Out of the Box yata. What comes to your mind when somebody says ootb? You just follow what's in the manual right? But based on the entries I've seen, you can also repaint and weather it in any color scheme you want as long as you don't modify any of the parts. That's not ootb if you ask me.. Or maybe im just sourgraping.
Btw, want to win stuff in the next one? Know someone below 15 yrs old? Last year, only two guys entered in the New Junior category.. Now there are supposed to be 8 winners in that category.. You don't even have to put much of an effort in your entries, you could assemble it together with duct tape, let your dog chew it, do whatever you want with it really.. as long as there are only 8 entries in that category then you're sure to take home a prize.

Oh yeah, I know what you mean about last year's entry. GundamGuy (I think) made GBWC 2013 posts on his blog and people were saying the Philippine winner's entry was a giant clusterfuck of bleergh ^^;

Hindi naman galit, disappointed lang. I got to take home an MG for free while the consolation prize winners only got HGs so medyo ok lang.

DeleteNope, nandun kami para mahintay na tawagin ako sa stage ahaha. Then when it was apparent na that's not going to happen I sulked, tingin sa mga nkasale na kits, libot kami sa venue then I sulked around some more.
